DELICIOUS cold borscht soup (šaltibarščiai) and Vivaldi again! - Deliziosa zuppa borscht fredda (šaltibarščiai) e ancora Vivaldi!

The following song gives me tingles all over my body :)

I dare you to find another piece so beautiful like that.... isn't it perfection?
The languorous sound is given by the damper used by the arcs. You can really listen here to the majestic expressive capacity of Vivaldi in painting words with music (this is the psalm 126 normally performed during Vespers) . I find also amazing how the word "Somnum" (= latin for "sleep") is accompanied by a rocking rhythm and languorous sound, so expressive.....

"Cum dederit dilectis suis somnum:
ecce haereditas Domini, filii:
merces, fructus ventris."

But also the following is amazing:
Here is the story: a woman has been cheated. The music and her voice express all the anger she feels at first. Afterwards, a moment of afterthought, of illusion, of nostalgy and love - she still cries over her broken love illusion, considering the chance of forgiving him once he will be back....but quickly her emotional state changes again in a blink, she's again overcome and overwhelmed by anger and by anxiety again,  you can definitely tell that by hearing her mad voice! she sings like she could barely breath...amazing! and Romina Basso is great!

here the lyrics in italian:

Se lento ancora il fulmine
l'oltraggio mio non vendica
cadra quell'empio, vittima
del giusto mio furor.
Ma sposa ancor ti sono
ritorna e ti perdono;
occhi versate in lacrime
tutto l'affanno d'un tradito amor."

and the English translation:
"
If the lightning is still slow
To avenge the outrage I have suffered,
Soon that wicked man will fall victim
To my just anger. Wicked! Wicked! Wicked!

But I am still your wife:
Come back, and I will forgive you.
My eyes, pour forth in your tears
All the affliction of betrayed love ."

You already know I am crazy for Vivaldi! but a friend who is also fond of Opera really fancy going to La Scala in Milan  and whatching a proper opera..
Many years passed since I watched the last opera in my life (apart the ones I saw during my secondary school, I remember a wonderful Carmen in Turin). But I have never been really fond of it. I think it might be an interesting experience, now....
For sure,  stuff like Beethoven or Schumann is not my thing at all, I always found them a bit "boring" ok, but maybe Puccini might meet my taste, so we will try :))))

*******************

For now, a wonderful recipe for a cold soup that I tried during my last long travel. I tasted it many times, and Arthuras prepared this to me. Thanks Arthuras, my wonderful couchsurfer host in Klaipeda! Of course, it is better in summer, but I really think it might be appreciated with any climatic condition, especially in autumn, since it is TOO GOOD! DO NOT BE SCARED BY THE COLOUR!! I never liked red beets, but....but!!!! you might think quite the opposite while reading my blog, since I have put a few recipes with red beet actually! But the fact is, red beets ALONE are baaaaad, but if prepared in the right way, they are amazing. Trust me and try this!

INGREDIENTS:

2 cucumbers (optional, I never use it, but in the traditional recipe it is required)
5 spring onions/OR  2 tablespoons of chives or, as I do, 1 white onion in small cubes
2 hard boiled eggs (required in the traditional recipe but I do not put them, to make it lighter)
1,5 lt kefir OR - OR 200gr quark + 400gr natural yogurt+500 ml milk
fresh dill (very important! if you cannot find it, use it dry)
2 big boiled beetroot
salt
a couple of boiled potatoes

If you want cucumbers, chop them in small cubes, with their peel.
Grate the cold beetroots using the biggest holes and, in a large bowl, mix them with the quark and milk and yougurt (kefir better, but if you cannot find it, use the other options I wrote).
Stir everything, adding the eggs and the cucumbers if you want, the chives or onions and the salt.

Peel the potatoes and serve them apart, as they were toasted bread to add to the soup.
Enjoy!

Fantastico pezzo!

Seguite il testo in italiano:

Se lento ancora il fulmine
l'oltraggio mio non vendica
cadra quell'empio, vittima",
del giusto mio furor.
Ma sposa ancor ti sono
ritorna e ti perdono;
occhi in lacrime versate

aneto fresco (molto importante! Se non riesci a trovarlo, usalo secco)
2  barbabietole rosse già bollite
sale
2 patate bollite (opzionale)
